WALK FOR STUDENTS

SUMMARY

WHAT: Walk For Students!

WHO: SLCSD Educators & Families

WHEN: Friday, February 28th

TIME: 1:00 pm (Ensign is dismissed early at 12:30pm)

WHERE: Rally @ Federal Building (125 S. State)

ATTIRE: RED

WHY: It's DISGRACEFUL for Utah to be dead last in education funding and expect teachers,

secretaries, tutors, custodians, to pick up the slack! UEA has been lobbying the Utah Legislature for decades for the little we have. Let’s make our voices heard on the 28th!

Better Funding = Reduced Class Sizes

Better Funding = Recruitment and Retention of Substitutes & Para-Educators

Better Funding = Mental Health Professionals to work with Trauma Affected Students

DETAILS

Please join us in supporting public education for Salt Lake City and all Utah students!

At 1 pm we will meet at the Wallace F. Bennett Federal Building at 125 S. State. We will walk to the Capitol at approximately 1:15 pm and gather at the Capitol front steps at 1:45 pm. At 2:00 pm we will go to the Capitol Rotunda alongside UEA for a short program (15 min). State Street will be closed and SLCPD will ensure the closure up to the Capitol. If you are unable to walk, plan on meeting us at the Capitol steps by 1:45 pm.

Parking is sure to be an issue near the Federal Building and at the Capitol. There is metered parking downtown, some parking at the District Office on 100 S. and 400 E., and free street parking east of 300 E. You may want to consider carpooling, riding TRAX, and/or share a LYFT.

After the program in the Rotunda, if you’re able to stick around, UEA is coordinating opportunities to meet with your lawmaker. They will have tables with UEA staff to help manage that effort.

Please share this with anyone you feel may be interested or who can share it with people who may be able to come!
